With an emphasis on accident prevention and concerns over occupational health, the waste industry seems to be the target of random visits in the North East of England. These visits being carried out by combined teams from the Environment Agency and HSE.
All registered waste sites are constantly alert to any potential hazards, but these visits are likely to put extra pressure on those companies to ensure that there is no reason for complaint, whilst still running continually busy operations with deadlines to meet.
You assume that most of these individuals will understand the practicalities of running this type of operation and it is easy to be critical when suggestions or requirements are made that either slow down or are expensive for the operation. However, we all like to be regarded as responsible employers with Health & Safety and our Environmental responsibilities being taken seriously.
None of us want to be involved in any accidents or fires on our premises, but, we must also be aware of potential long-term effects of dust, noise and air/water pollution.
As Company Directors and Managers, we all want to avoid any personal risk of prosecution and would like to think that by addressing all potential issues, Insurance Premiums should be reduced!
Wright Rain Environmental Ltd specialise in two areas of these issues. And can provide technical advice and help with both dust and fire suppression for many of our largest UK Aggregate and waste handling companies.
The Fire Prevention Plans for the Environment Agency must be kept up to date and prepared for future business development. And with the regularity of fires in waste re-cycling facilities around the country, we are noticing that these plans are getting more stringent with many companies turning to specialist consultants for application assistance. The experience of Wright Rain Environmental in this field helps create a practical solution to some of the waste business issues and we are pleased to assist in the planning stages of the Fire Prevention Plans, together with the installation and back-up of the final system.
